Gooey has released Mortamer, a Lo-Fi effects plugin for crushing and droning your sound.
Mortamer uses sample rate reduction alongside a peculiar form of filtering, which works by averaging tap delay lines. Although Mortamer is not that unusual, because like other well-defined LoFi Fx, Mortamer comes with a resolution reduction, d.c. offset, classic filtering, dithering, and the ability to add formants.
We wanted to add a touch of Gooeyness to Mortamer, so we also added three modulation envelopes which bind to the main controls. It’s never been easy to recreate those classic LoFi gritty crumbles with Gooey’s Mortamer.
We love Mortamer for its sound character, which ranges from babbling brooks, talking robots, to broken fax machines. If you’re not into outrageous sound design, Mortamer is also a useful tool for droning, dithering, and layering sounds as well.
