Audio Brewers releases ab EQ – Three-dimensional EQ with independent bands per spatial dimension

Audio Brewers has announced the release of their latest plugin, ab EQ, a three-dimensional equaliser natively compatible with Mono, Stereo, and Ambisonics signals (1OA to 7OA).

ab EQ is designed to function internally using Higher-Order Ambisonics, enabling compatibility with any speaker array, including Dolby Atmos. This architecture allows users to sculpt frequency content independently across spatial poles such as Front, Back, Left, Right, Top, and Bottom. According to the company, this expands equalisation from a purely tonal process into a spatially aware tool.

At its core, ab EQ is a fully featured equaliser with 10 bands per dimensional pole. Each band exists in space and can be independently controlled across all dimensions. Users can link bands for traditional EQ moves or decouple them to process each spatial pole separately. This enables workflows such as attenuating low frequencies behind the listener, boosting presence on the sides, or softening highs above without affecting the rest of the mix.

Each band can be configured as a pass, notch, bell, or shelf filter, and positioned freely across the frequency spectrum. While maintaining familiar EQ workflows, ab EQ extends them into three dimensions, where frequency balance becomes a spatial decision.

The plugin supports Mono, Stereo, and Ambisonics sources (1OA through 7OA) and outputs Stereo and Ambisonics signals. These outputs can be decoded to any speaker array, from Binaural to Surround and Dolby Atmos configurations. Mono or Stereo sources are automatically converted into Ambisonics internally, allowing three-dimensional processing without altering established workflows.

Even when the final output is Stereo, all internal processing occurs in Ambisonics. This allows users to rotate, reshape, and rebalance sound spatially before rendering back to Stereo, enabling advanced binaural and spatial results.

Because ab EQ operates internally in up to 7th-Order Ambisonics, it allows precise frequency shaping for two- and three-dimensional sources across Surround, Dolby Atmos, or custom multispeaker arrays.

Pricing & Availability

ab EQ is available for 59,00€ (49,00€ intro price through 10 April, 2026) for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats at audiobrewers.com/plugins/p/ab-eq

Audio Brewers has also introduced ab EQ X, a version tailored for iOS devices (iPhone and iPad). This version brings the same equalisation engine to mobile platforms, this time for Stereo signals, where Left, Right and Front can be equalised independently.

ab EQ X is available in the App Store for 5.99 USD | 6,99€.
